DJC team in the 12th Conference on the future of adversarial and inquisitorial systems “Bias and criminal justice”

The last week was very busy for our DJC team! We had a chance to actively participate in the 12th Conference on the future of adversarial and inquisitorial systems “Bias and criminal justice” hosted at the University of Bologna from 17 May to 19 May 2023. This annual meeting of criminal law scholars was organized in collaboration with the University of Basel, Duke University, Warwick Law School and the University of North Carolina.

During the early career scholars event Dorota Czerwińska discussed “(Un)biased negotiated justice“ while Kaja Kowalczewska reported the results of survey carried out among judges and lawyers from Ukraine in the presentation “’The Fog of war’ as a bias factor in criminal proceedings”. Karolina Kremens, during the main event, talked about the gender bias in digitalized criminal justice in her a presentation with a telling title “This is a Man’s World”.

Our team very much enjoyed the time spent with new and old friends (special thanks to prof. Michele Caianiello!), fantastic food and numerous walks among the centuries-old streets and monuments in orange and red. At the same time, our thoughts are with all those affected by the heavy rainfall that hit this region of Italy.
