Academic Excellence Hubs Contest was announced in February 2021 as the part of the “Excellence Initiative – Research University” (IDUB) program.
In the fall of 2019, University of Wrocław (UWr) won a spot in a prestigious group of the best ten Polish universities, qualified for the above mentioned IDUB program. As its name indicates – it is an initiative which, in the next six years, is to transform the leading Polish universities into research institutions comparable to their counterparts from Western Europe, the United States and Asia. University of Wrocław received additional funds in order to achieve this goal. In total, 32 million PLN will be distributed to fund development, research and progress at UWr. Part of this sum was allocated to finance the Academic Excellence Hubs.
Hubs have been established for at least five years, each chaired by a director supported by their research team. The aim of the Academic Excellence Hubs is to noticeably improve scientific recognition in research areas which, on the scale of the University of Wrocław, have more modest international presence. Eight Hubs were selected in this contest, one of which is Digital Justice Center, headed by dr Karolina Kremens.
