Yvonne McDermott-Rees

Yvonne McDermott-Rees is a professor at the Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law at Swansea University. Her research interests are international criminal law and procedure, evidence, and human rights. Yvonne currently serves as Principal Investigator on the TRUE project, selected for funding by the European Research Council (ERC), which explores the impact of deepfakes on trust in user-generated evidence of human rights violations. Prior to establishing TRUE, she was PI on a large multidisciplinary project funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), which examined the use of open source evidence for human rights fact-finding.

Yvonne collaborated with us at the end of October. During her virtual session, she conducted the presentation on the impact of deepfakes on user-generated evidence and human rights. Her talk highlighted the challenges arising from digital transformation in the realm of justice. The lecture sparked engaging discussions on the evolving role of law in the digital age.
