March 24, 2025 – Stereotypy jako przyczyna naruszeń praw człowieka

Anti-stereotyping is a well-established element of international human rights law, particularly in relation to gender and disability discrimination. Drawing on relevant international treaties (Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence, Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities), the aim of the seminar was to discuss the added value of the anti-stereotyping approach in the “anti-discrimination toolbox”. The presentation focused on two aspects: the obligations imposed on States by international law to achieve structural change through the elimination of discriminatory stereotyping, and the identification and addressing of stereotyping at the individual level through international judicial or quasi-judicial procedures.

Katarzyna Sękowska-Kozłowska – PhD and habilitation in law – is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Law Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences (ILS PAS) and Head of the Poznań Human Rights Centre ILS PAS. She is also a Member of the Scientific Council of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Gender and Identity Research at Adam Mickiewicz University and an Expert of the European Commission and the Council of Europe. Her main research interests are international human rights protection and anti-discrimination with a special focus on gender discrimination (including violence against women, protection of reproductive rights, positive action; discrimination and gender stereotypes).
