Dr Kaja Kowalczewska at the Institute for International Peace and Security Law at the University of Cologne

Kaja Kowalczewska spent the entire month of October at the Institute for International Peace and Security Law at the University of Cologne. During the residency, dr Kowalczewska collaborated with prof. Claus Kress and presented her doctoral studies results to the researchers and students of the Institute. The presentation of the legal ramifications of the debate on lethal autonomous weapon systems was followed by vivid and inspiring discussion. Dr Kowalczewska invited everyone to follow Digital Justice Center activities and still stays in touch with the students working on international humanitarian law and international criminal law aspects.

The main objective of the stay was to prepare and discuss a grant application in the SONATA 18 NCN. Dr Kowalczewska consulted her project ideas with prof. Frauke Rostalski, prof. Thomas Weigend, dr Anan Alsheikh Haidar, prof. Morten Bergsmo and Mr. Ilia Utmelidze of CILRAP, prof. Bettina Weisser and with Mr. Raphael von Aulock of Alfred Landecker Foundation.

We still cannot disclose the topic and details of the research application but we are keeping our fingers crossed, and promise to notify you as soon as possible! Well, maybe a little sneak peek: the project is about something that can be considered a part of the human body in modern times, in terms of its impact on the prosecution of those who commit acts incompatible with any religion, philosophy or humanity.
