Katarzyna Goclik at Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law
In September 2025, Katarzyna Goclik – a PhD student at the Digital Justice Center – completed a research stay at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law in Freiburg im Breisgau.
The Institute is one of Europe’s leading research centers in the fields of criminal law, criminology, and public security. Its international reputation, extensive library collections, and strongly interdisciplinary research environment make it a key hub for scholars engaged in advanced studies on comparative and international criminal law.
During her stay, Katarzyna Goclik carried out a research project funded by a Minigrant for PhD students at Uniwersytet Wrocławski, entitled: ‘The Genesis and Development of the Application of Universal Jurisdiction in the Adjudication of Criminal Cases.’
The in-depth library research conducted at the Institute significantly contributed to the progress of her doctoral dissertation on the principle of universal jurisdiction. The research stay not only provided valuable access to unique resources and leading academic expertise, but also offered an inspiring scholarly environment that fostered new perspectives for her ongoing doctoral work.
