New publication co-authored by members of the Digital Justice Center
We are pleased to share a new publication co-authored by members of the Digital Justice Center:
“Challenges of Autonomous Weapon Systems for International Criminal Law: A Polish Perspective” by Hanna Kuczyńska, Karolina Kremens and Kaja Kowalczewska, published in Revue Internationale de Droit Pénal.
The paper is based on the report prepared by the Polish group of the Association Internationale de Droit Pénal and discussed during the International Colloquium, Section IV, in Opatija, Croatia (7–8 December 2023).
The contribution examines the current state of Polish regulation concerning the use and limits of AI in international humanitarian and criminal law. The research confirms that there is no specific regulation addressing AI in either general or specialised legal acts. Considerable normative work remains necessary to ensure that legal frameworks keep pace with technological developments in armed conflict.
For the Digital Justice Center, this publication also represents something more. It was the first joint project between Karolina Kremens and Kaja Kowalczewska and ultimately led to Kaja becoming a permanent member of the Digital Justice Team.
We are proud to highlight the strength of collaborative female scholarship in international criminal law and AI governance. This work reflects the energy, solidarity and intellectual leadership of women shaping debates at the intersection of technology and accountability.
