Katarzyna Goclik and Kamil Sobański have been awarded Minigrants by the University of Wrocław

Katarzyna Goclik and Kamil Sobański have been awarded Minigrants by the University of Wrocław under the Excellence Initiative – Research University program. With this funding, they will be able to enhance and expand their PhD research projects.

Katarzyna Goclik (awarded PLN 10,000.00) will investigate the genesis and development of the application of universal jurisdiction in criminal cases. Her research will focus on the origins, historical background, and evolution of the principle of universal jurisdiction over time. The primary objective of the project is to analyze how this principle has developed and to clarify its conceptual framework. The research will primarily be conducted during a stay at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law.

Kamil Sobański (awarded PLN 9,950.03) will broaden his PhD research by incorporating a comparative criminal procedure perspective. He will focus on rights of trial participants in relation to remote participation in proceedings before the International Criminal Court. This research will be supported by a two-week stay at the Department of Legal Sciences at the University of Bologna in Italy. During his stay, Kamil will conduct research in the university’s library, participate in seminars and academic events, and present his findings. He will work under the mentorship of Prof. Michele Caianiello, a leading expert in criminal procedure and its international, European, and comparative dimensions.
