Karolina Kremens received a distinction for her habilitation thesis!
Science is a woman! Five out of six honorees in the competition for the best academic papers are female researchers from Polish research centers! Congratulations to all the awardees, may this success inspire others. Karolina Kremens from DJC was in this group. We congratulate Karolina on her great achievement and keep our fingers crossed for further accomplishments.
What is the distinction for?
Karolina was awarded this distinction for her habilitation thesis entitled “Powers of the Prosecutor in Criminal Investigation. A Comparative Perspective”. The publication examined the scope of prosecutorial powers at various stages of criminal proceedings in four countries: United States, Italy, Poland and Germany. Using a problem-oriented approach, the book provides a parallel analysis of each country in five possible spheres of prosecutorial involvement: initiating a criminal investigation; conducting a criminal investigation; making preliminary charging decisions; imposing coercive measures; and discontinuing a criminal investigation. While using the competing models of adversarial and inquisitorial as a framework, the author focused on the prosecutor as a key figure in the criminal process and investigation.

A Comparative Perspective” and was published in Open Access by Routledge thanks to the financial support of Excellence Initiative – Research University.
