4th – 6th July 2022 – The annual international ICON-S conference
From 4th to 6th July 2022 the annual international ICON-S conference was held at the University of Wrocław. This time, DJC Team members had the pleasure to take part in preparations for the conference and later watched over its course, supporting prof. Anna Śledzińska – Simon and prof. Dariusz Adamski, the main organizers of the event. Our Center also had the privilege to contribute to its organization as one of the event’s sponsors.
Apart from the organizational roles, we had the opportunity to take an active part in the conference as well. On the first day, our team members – Karolina Kremens and Kaja Kowalczewska participated in the panel “International Criminal Law in the Digital Era” with Patrycja Grzebyk, Hanna Kuczyńska and Karolina Wierczyńska. The panel aimed to present contemporary challenges to the international criminal justice system, in the face of the far-reaching mediatization of war and the availability of technological tools that can, if properly regulated, enhance measures in the interest of justice. On July 5th, Karolina Kremens and Wojciech Jasiński, alongside Giulia Lasagni talked about digital searches from the Polish, Italian, and ECtHR perspectives. The panelists explored national perspectives and slow attempts to address the needs of modern societies in the light of contemporary challenges arising from digital searches. They also attempted to answer the question, of whether there is a common standard for digital searches that can be identified within EU and Council of Europe legal frameworks.
During the conference, we were also able to participate in other panels with renowned experts in various fields of law and hear keynote speakers such as Nobel Prize laureate Olga Tokarczuk and Joseph Weiler. The discussions were very vivid and led to interesting conclusions!
