Katarzyna Parchimowicz

Katarzyna Parchimowicz, PhD Law, LL.M. Finance is Assistant Professor at Digital Justice Center, Associated Researcher at the European Banking Institute and Research Associate at the Amsterdam Center for Law & Economics (University of Amsterdam).

Katarzyna received her first masters degree from University of Wroclaw. During these master studies she gained international experience at Ludwig Maximilians Universität in Munich (Erasmus) and at the University of North Carolina (Asheville) in the United States (ISEP Exchange). Katarzyna also graduated with distinction from the School of German Law organized by the University of Wroclaw in cooperation with Humboldt University Berlin.

In academic year 2018/2019 Katarzyna completed another masters programme – Law and Finance – at the Institute for Law and Finance (Goethe University, Frankfurt am Main) and was awarded an LL.M. Finance degree. During her stay in Frankfurt she completed an internship in banking supervision at the European Central Bank and started her long-term cooperation with European Banking Institute. In 2019 she spent one term as a Junior Academic Visitor at the University of Oxford. In 2020 she conducted research as a Visiting Scholar at the Duke University School of Law. This stay was sponsored by the Kosciuszko Foundation.

In November 2020 she received a three-year grant from National Science Centre for a project on real economy-oriented regulation of global systemically important banks. In May 2021 Katarzyna defended with distinction her PhD dissertation ‘Regulation of global systemically important banks in the USA and in the EU.’ The thesis was written under the supervision of Professor Dariusz Adamski and was reviewed by Professor Jacek Jastrzębski of University of Warsaw and Professor Lawrence Baxter of Duke Law School. Katarzyna is the author of Regulation of Megabanks. Legal Frameworks of the USA and EU‚ (Routledge, 2023) and an awardee of 2022 ECB Legal Research Programme. She also received START scholarship awarded by the Foundation for Polish Science.

Throughout her academic career she taught courses in EU law at the University of Wroclaw and in International Finance, Banking Regulation and Supervision, as well as Innovations in Banking at the University of Economics in Krakow. Katarzyna also cooperates with some non-academic entities, among others with Global Relay and Central Banking.

Her research is focused on European and international financial and banking law, in particular on regulation of global systemically important banks and new technologies in finance.

She is a proud caregiver of a rescue dog named Dante. She loves Settlers of Catan, Formula 1, football, karaoke and raspberry tomatoes.
