Kalina Romanowska has received Minigrant for PhD students

We’re thrilled to share that Kalina Romanowska has received Minigrant for PhD students financed by the “Research University – Excellence Initiative” program conducted at the University of Wroclaw! This initiative supports PhD candidates by providing funding to further develop their research projects.

Kalina’s project, “Zaszyfrowane dowody elektroniczne – wyzwania dla postępowania karnego” (‘Encrypted digital evidence – challenges for criminal proceedings’), focuses on the use of encrypted digital evidence in EU criminal proceedings, particularly in cases stemming from the EncroChat and SkyECC operations. Her research examines the challenges such evidence poses for the justice system – especially with regard to the right of defense, equality of arms, and ultimately the right to a fair trial under Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

As part of the grant, Kalina will undertake a one-week research visit to the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law in Freiburg, Germany. This stay will support her PhD work and provide access to one of Europe’s leading criminal law research libraries.

Congratulations to Kalina on this achievement! We look forward to seeing the results of this initiative.
