Dominika Kuźnicka-Błaszkowska has been awarded funding from TryghedsGruppen and the Digital Democracy Centre

We are pleased to announce that Dominika Kuźnicka-Błaszkowska has been awarded funding from TryghedsGruppen and the Digital Democracy Centre (SDU) for the 2026 fellowship project:

REAL-DEAL – Regulating Deepfakes in the EU: Accountability, Law & Democratic Freedoms.

Deepfakes pose significant and fast-growing risks to democratic dialogue, media trust, and citizens’ access to reliable information. This project will examine how the EU’s AI Act and Digital Services Act address these challenges and how their implementation can protect society while safeguarding fundamental rights, especially freedom of expression.

The fellowship represents an important academic contribution at the intersection of technology, law, and democracy. By combining legal analysis with interviews with journalists and civil society organisations, the project connects regulatory frameworks with real-world experiences and will generate insights with clear societal relevance.

We are proud to support this work, which will inform ongoing EU policy debates and contribute to evidence-based, rights-respecting approaches to synthetic media governance.
