Kamil Sobański presented his research at Maastricht University

On April 23, 2025, Kamil Sobański had the opportunity to present his research at Maastricht University during the Maastricht Institute for Criminal Sciences lunch seminar, hosted by the Faculty of Law at the Maastricht University.

His presentation focused on the importance of the physical presence of the accused in the courtroom and their right to attend trials—key components of a fair trial and the protection of defense rights. However, with the advancement of digital technologies and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, remote participation in trials could become a more viable option in certain cases. He explored the idea that the right to be present at International Criminal Court trials should now be expanded to include remote attendance. A research article analyzing the problem will (hopefully) be published in the coming months—stay tuned!
