A postcard from Kyoto: War Crimes Archiving Seminar

Between 20-21 February Kaja Kowalczewska moderated two panel discussions at the International Seminar: War Crimes Archiving, which brought together researchers from all around the World, including Norway, Ukraine, UK or Japan and practitioners from Myanmar Witness (Centre for Information Resilience) and The Institute of Crimes Committed During the War in Kosovo (ICCW).

Her panels focused on technological tools (Virtual Reality, Deepfakes and Generative Artificial Intelligence ), as well as civil society (examples of actions from Northern Uganda and Myanmar).

The seminar was part of a broader research project on transformative justice and different types of archives (of evidence, legal materials and memories). A part of the event took place at the Kyoto Museum for World Peace where participants could follow the historical perspective of war and peace in Japan from late XIX century.
