
Kaja Kowalczewska participated in the Conference “Topical Issues in the Development of the Ukrainian Forensic Science Area”
As part of the “In search of justice for core crimes in the digital age” project (financed by NCN, registration number: 2023/49/B/HS5/02623), Kaja Kowalczewska participated in the International Research and Practice Conference “Topical Issues in the Development of the Ukrainian Forensic Science Area”, held in Kyiv on January 31, 2025. The event was organized by the Scientific Research Center of Independent Forensics?, Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
Together with Michał Nasiłowski, she presented a recently published article, “Polish Insights into Forensic Technology: The Role of 3D Scanners in Crime Scene Investigations and International Criminal Justice” 📄🔍
The research highlights the role of 3D scanners in documenting international crime scenes, incorporating insights from interviews with officers from Poland’s National Police Headquarters, who actively use this technology both in Poland and Ukraine.
Beyond the conference, the visit to Kyiv was also an opportunity to engage in discussions with representatives of the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office and officers from the Criminal Bureau of Poland’s National Police Headquarters, including Michał Białęcki and Bohdan Shelest. Both are involved in the Joint Investigative Team Ukraine, supporting investigations into international crimes committed during the ongoing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
