Two of our researchers have secured National Science Centre (NCN) funding
We’re extremely happy to announce that two of our researchers have secured National Science Centre (NCN) funding for their projects! Their work tackles some of the most urgent issues at the intersection of law, technology, and justice. Here’s a peek at what they’re up to:
🧠 Michalina’s PRELUDIUM Project:
“AI and Defence Rights – Friends or Foes?”
Michalina is diving deep into the world of AI in criminal proceedings. Her project investigates how AI-based systems can be used while safeguarding defence rights. But she’s not stopping there — she’s tackling the crucial “how” question: how can AI be applied proportionally and fairly? Her goal is to create common legal standards across the EU, ensuring that AI works with us, not against us, in the pursuit of justice.
📱 Kaja’s OPUS Project:
“From Voices to Verdicts: The Role of User-Generated Evidence in Transforming International Criminal Justice”
Kaja’s project explores the power of everyday people to influence international justice. Using digital tools, ordinary citizens are capturing evidence of war crimes and atrocities. But how can this flood of User-Generated Evidence (UGE) be properly integrated into the international criminal justice system? Kaja aims to answer this by identifying best practices, developing guidelines, and creating strategies for ethical and effective use of UGE. With case studies from Syria, Palestine, and Ukraine, her work aims to turn grassroots evidence into transformative justice.
