Barbara’s academic journey reached a significant milestone as she recently received her diploma after having defended her master’s thesis earlier this summer. Her thesis, entitled “Rulers or Rules? International law, the policies of national leaders, and the attitudes of citizens,” replicated a scientific study originally published in the European Journal of International Law.

What is it about?

Her research findings have shed light on the fascinating dynamics between politicians’ statements, international law, and the attitudes of citizens, emphasizing the pivotal role played by political leaders in shaping public opinion, even over the norms of international law.

Furthermore, Barbara’s work highlights the potential for positive change, as it reveals that with an effective representation of the contradiction between domestic actions and international law, attitudes can be influenced and transformed in favor of a desire to comply with international law.
