
Dr. Kowalczewska’s Take on AI in the Military
In the military, trust matters too. Artificial intelligence can be used here in two ways: to support human decisions or as an entity that makes decisions autonomously. The first use is far less controversial. AI has been used in this way for years – it processes satellite data, intelligence data, camera images. “The real problems will start if armies decide to hand over decision-making to algorithms,” Dr. Kaja Kowalczewska, a lawyer from the University of Wroclaw and author of the publication Artificial Intelligence in War.
