The Digital Justice Center is pleased to present the supervisors of two PhD candidates conducting their doctoral research within projects funded by the National Science Centre (NCN). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For\u00a0more\u00a0information: Justice for Victims 2.0:\u00a0\u00a0 Leveraging Modern Technology in Rape Cases<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aleksandra\u2019s doctoral research aims to substantially improve access to information for victims in the digital environment. Her work examines the implementation of standards established in Directive 2012\/29\/EU on the rights to information, support, and protection of crime victims, as well as Directive 2019\/882\/EU concerning the accessibility of products and services. A key component of the research includes the analysis of letters of rights for victims, the application of plain language principles, and the use of modern technologies to support the communication of victims\u2019 rights. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For\u00a0more\u00a0information:\u00a0From Voices to\u00a0Verdicts: The Role of User-Generated Evidence in Transforming International Criminal Justice \u2013 NCN<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kalina\u2019s research focuses on the use of encrypted digital evidence in EU criminal proceedings, with particular emphasis on cases arising from the EncroChat and SkyECC operations. Her work addresses the procedural and evidentiary challenges such material poses for the justice system, especially concerning the rights of the defence, the principle of equality of arms, and, ultimately, the right to a fair trial under Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both projects place significant emphasis on the expertise and guidance provided by their supervisory teams. In the FVTV project, Dr Kaja Kowalczewska serves as the assistant supervisor responsible for the implementation of the NCN-funded research while supporting the doctoral work of Kalina Romanowska. 
In the Justice for Victims 2.0 project, Prof. Tomasz Piekot contributes specialized linguistic expertise, providing essential field-specific knowledge crucial to the project\u2019s success. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
